Wet meteorological beginning of summer
The weather was also unstable and wet at the meteorological start of summer. The following graph (Figure 2) summarizes the rainfall over the last 72 hours.

Extensive rainfall expected again
During the course of Sunday, moist, unstable air will again flow in from the back of the receding low pressure system from the northeast (see orange tones in the animation below).

The air mass is also further destabilized by a low pressure system that is gradually moving south from Denmark (see animation below).

In addition, the likelihood of precipitation will be further increased in the area of a convergence zone over southern Germany. The northerly to north-easterly winds will bring the stronger showers to Switzerland during the afternoon and overnight into Monday. Thus, from Sunday afternoon to Monday afternoon, another 25 to 40 mm of precipitation is expected, particularly on the central and eastern northern slopes of the Alps and in the northern bordering Mittelland. Locally, amounts of 50 to 70 mm may also fall due to convection. MeteoSwiss has issued a forecast for the regions mentioned.
